Barbara Sturm (Szwajcaria)

My Performance art is very connected with my life and my life is nothing special!

It is being - and like all being it is a summation of energy trying to survive.

Interesting is, that I am searching for a language to talk what is, what happens, and try to open eyes, but also open hearts. And I talk and communicate in an honest way. I am sorry for being a bad liar, I am sorry that the truth is mostly bad news!

Good luck is that there are lots of angels, thank you so much!

This is a chance to survive!

With my performance art I found the language to talk, a chance to think about and I work for being angels, in FOR / OF / WITH.

FOR is in memory to somebody, trying to support somebody; in OF I take somebody’s idea, I am inspired by somebody; and in WITH I am in cooperation, work in exchange with other performance artists.

W mojej sztuce performance odnalazłam język do rozmowy, szansę na przemyślenia i zadanie bycia aniołami DLA KOGOŚ/ Z KIMŚ/ DZIĘKI KOMUŚ.

She was born in 1972 in Basel (CH). From 1998 to 1999 she studied at the Art School Material+Form in Luzern. From 1999 to 2003 she studied at the Fine Arts section of the School for Art and Design in Zürich. During this time she concentrated completely on performance art and finished her studies in 2003 with a performance entitled “walking while waiting”, in which she went for a walk with a turtle. She has been showing her performances in different countries since 2003. Frequently it is her own body on which all attention is centered. In the field of tension between fragility, irritation and poetry, she develops evocative images in her actions. These images are sometimes very demanding of the spectator. Barbara Sturm allows the mute images of a battle between the physical and its environment to stand in space unanswered and enigmatic as extremely disturbing elements. Barbara Sturm shows physical performances which are choreographed with extreme strictness and reduction; abstract, image-like, recalling an ink drawing from the far east. It is about mastering the body, slowness, silence, about simple physical facts. Barbara Sturm places her confidence in reduction.
